This two ring gag allows you to move the rein between the main ring and the bottom ring to give more control, whilst the sweet iron and copper assists the horse to be softer in the mouth.

A correctly fitting bit should have a fingers width on either side of the horses mouth. To ensure your new bit fits correctly measure the length of the mouthpiece from inside of the rings, as illustrated below.

Sweet iron bits are designed to oxidize to produce a sweet taste which helps with mouthing.  The copper ribs will encourage mouthing but also ensure the horse will not take up too much of a contact, ideal for horses that can take a hold.

Gags

Gags are related to the snaffle but are more severe.  Gags work by using the action of a conventional bit with a lever action which works on the poll.  They are often seen on horses playing polo, going cross country and hunting.
